On the Shankang Festival, Suying’s family comes back to Jingmai Mountain in Yunnan.

In the morning, Suying and Grandpa go to the tea forest.

Up in an old tea tree, Grandpa picks the young tea leaves.

“Suying, look! Here are some crab’s legs,” says Grandpa.

Suying takes a close look. The plant on the tea tree really looks like crab’s legs.

Back at home, they pan-fry and roll the green leaves.

These leaves will be made into Pu’er tea cakes.

Pu’er tea gets better with time, just like a finewine.

After a day’s work, the family enjoys food and tea together.

Grandma makes chicken soup with crab’s legs. Delicious!

Drinking tea, Grandpa tells Suying the Blangs’ story of tea.

Long ago, the Blang lived near Dianchi Lake.

In wartime, they had to move, but many of them fell ill.

At that time, Pa Aileng used tea leaves to cure his people.

The Blang went on their way. Atlast, they came to Jingmai Mountain.

Pa Aileng taught them to plant tea trees near their villages. We can still see some of the trees today.

Every year, the Blang repeat Pa Aileng’s last words on the Shankang Festival.

“Horses and cows, gold and silver, they won’tlast forever. Tea trees are the best. Look after them well, so you can give them to your children.”

As the music starts, people sing and dance. Suying says to herself:

“May the tea forests always be green. May the Blang always enjoy this happyscene!”
