Introduction:
The four books are based on the personal experiences of the author's boyhood. It uses plain language to tell the story of a teenage cowboy and his livestock: the battle between man and beast, becoming stronger and friendships. The series embodies adventure and warmth, taking the reader into a fun and vibrant world shared by men and animals. In the book Iron Horns , a new 14-year-old rancher takes over the small herd, he must subdue the indomitable Iron Horns, a fiercely wild bull. This is no easy task as the bull is aggressive and nearly invincible. When the cowboy launches a series of attacks, he comes to nothing. Finally, under the guidance and inspiration of an old rancher, he domesticates him with love. Iron Horns fights wolves and leopards, and is the chief defender of the herd. The naturally timid teenage cowboy gradually grows up too, becoming a brave man. When a pack of dogs invade the pastures, Iron Horns kills one of them. During the struggle, he becomes friends with another dog who is eager for revenge, but the young cowboy has difficulty winning the dog's trust. Can he prevail or will he lose control of the herd again?
